WORTH Association operates on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples; šxʷməθkʷəy̓əmaɁɬ təməxʷ (Musqueam), S’ólh Téméxw (Stó:lō), Skwxwú7mesh-ulh Temíx̱w (Squamish) and səl̓ilwətaɁɬ təməxʷ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

WORTH has initiated and leads a series of impactful networking and educational events, skills training, mentorship programs, and leadership education and resources to equip women in the recreation, tourism and hospitality sector with connections, support, training, and tools to support their career ambitions. We host annual events such as Yes Shef: a celebration of women in food and beverage, the WORTH Leadership Summit, and the WORTH Leadership Academy

We attract a range of members; from students new to the industry to women working in senior management roles. While we use the term ‘women’ in our name, we represent all individuals who identify as female and encourage men to join in our efforts. We welcome trans, cis, genderqueer, and non-binary people in our community. We welcome all those who support our mission to educate, elevate, empower, and advocate for equity.

The Opportunity:

The Board of Directors of WORTH Association has two volunteer Board Director roles to fill. We are seeking a qualified individual to join as a Board Director who will also serve as Treasurer and Finance Committee Chair and a Board Director, serving as a member at large.  

Board terms are two years long and the commitment required of WORTH Board members is about 10 hours/month, including participating in quarterly Board meetings and committee meetings.  Meetings are a combination of remote and in-person in Vancouver, BC.  Board members must reside in British Columbia.

WORTH Association Board Treasurer and Board of Directors Member 

The nominating committee of WORTH Association is seeking candidates for the following two board positions : 

Board Role: Treasurer and Finance Committee Chair

The Treasurer for the Board of Directors at WORTH Association plays a critical leadership role in ensuring the financial health and sustainability of the organization. As the financial expert on the board, the Treasurer provides guidance and oversight on all financial matters, including budgeting, financial reporting, compliance, and fundraising efforts. The Treasurer ensures that WORTH's financial strategy aligns with its vision, mission, values, and strategic goals, contributing to the organization's long-term success and impact. The Treasurer role Chairs the board’s Finance Committee.

Qualifications and Experience: 

  • CPA or equivalent financial qualification preferred.

  • Proven experience in nonprofit financial management,strategic financial planning, budgeting, and financial reporting.

  • Strong understanding of financial policies, compliance regulations, and risk management.

  • Familiarity with grant reporting or restricted funding an asset.

  • Familiarity with Quickbooks Online an asset.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

  • Ability to collaborate with the board and executive team on financial strategy.

  • Previous board experience on or leading the Finance/Audit committee.

Commitment:

  • Serve a two-year term, with the possibility of renewal

  • Attendance and informed participation at 4-6 board meetings per year (minimum 2 in-person meetings in Vancouver per year)

  • Serve as Chair of the Finance Committee and lead the quarterly Finance Committee meetings and the annual Board Budget meeting

  • Optional off-site meetings and Board representation at WORTH events, where appropriate

  • Dedicate 8-10 hours per month to board related activities (including meeting attendance)

  • Participation in fundraising/membership promotion/sponsor acquisition; open doors to your personal and professional networks with the aim of championing WORTH Association’s mission.

Board Role: Member at Large

The WORTH Association board director provides strategic leadership and oversight to ensure the organization effectively pursues its mission and goals.  Directors are responsible for establishing policies, providing governance, and ensuring accountability.  All board directors participate in a minimum of one board committee.

Qualifications and Experience: 

  • Non profit governance

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong understanding of financial policies, compliance regulations, and risk management.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

  • Experience in recreation, tourism and/or hospitality is an asset.

  • Prior board experience (preferred, but not required).

Commitment:

  • Serve a two-year term, with the possibility of renewal

  • Attendance and informed participation at 4-6 board meetings per year (minimum 2 in-person meetings in Vancouver per year)

  • Active participation on at least one Board committee, including 4 virtual committee annually

  • Optional off-site meetings and Board representation at WORTH events, where appropriate

  • Dedicate 8-10 hours per month to board related activities (including meeting attendance)

  • Participation in fundraising/membership promotion/sponsor acquisition; open doors to your personal and professional networks with the aim of championing WORTH Association’s mission.

All Board candidates should demonstrate:

  1. A passion for advancing women in leadership

  2. Commitment to advancing WORTH’s mission, vision, values and strategic plan

  3. Collaborative and respectful communicator, adheres to the WORTH Code of Conduct

  4. Familiarity with non-profit governance or the ability and commitment to learn
