More Than a Stopover
A lot of us didn’t plan to stay in hospitality.
Maybe you took a serving job to make rent, worked front desk while finishing school, or joined a visitor services team because you loved people and craved variety. The fast hiring, the social energy, the flexibility, it pulled you in. And then… you stayed. Or maybe you’re still deciding.
You’re not alone. Many women enter this industry without a long-term plan. And let’s be honest, it’s not always easy to imagine one. The hours can be inconsistent. The career paths feel vague. Burnout is real. And for too many, a next step doesn’t even seem possible.
But that doesn’t mean the opportunities aren’t there. They just aren’t always visible, or equally accessible.
This is where mentorship makes all the difference.
Not just mentorship as a program, but as a mindset. A way of showing up for one another. A way of saying: I see you. I’ve been there. And you belong here.
At WORTH, we believe the future of this industry is built by women who support each other, not just with advice, but with access, advocacy, and action. Whether you’re offering a hand or reaching for one, mentorship has the power to change everything, especially when it’s rooted in care, curiosity, and a willingness to challenge the way things have always been done.
Sometimes mentorship happens through structured programs.
But sometimes, it’s quieter, and just as powerful.
Like a young woman arriving at a networking event like Sea Suite after a long shift, unsure if she belongs, and finding herself surrounded by others who see her. Who share their time, their stories, and their belief in her potential. No agenda. Just connection, and the kind of belonging that makes ambition possible.
Sometimes, that’s all it takes.
For many women, especially those who’ve had to navigate this industry without a clear map or connections, mentorship isn’t just support. It’s survival. It’s a quiet conversation with someone who’s been where you are. Ask women in leadership how they got there, and you’ll hear it again and again: “Someone took a chance on me. Someone opened the door.”
The reality is that those chances aren’t handed out equally. Sometimes it’s not just about hard work or being ready. It’s about who’s seen as a “good fit.” Who gets the benefit of the doubt. Who reminds someone of themselves. For too many, that door stays closed, not because of a lack of talent, but because their talent isn’t seen.
That’s not luck, that’s legacy. And it’s one we’re here to rewrite.
There are women watching, wondering if there’s a future for them here.
Let them see that there is.
Whether you’re just arriving in this industry or have been navigating it for years, you deserve to feel seen, supported, and surrounded by people who believe in your potential.
At WORTH, we’re building spaces for that kind of connection.
Our next mentorship opportunities open this fall. Whether you join us then or take the first step by reaching out to someone in your network, consider this your invitation.
Share your story. Speak your goal. Mentorship has the power to shift everything, especially when it’s rooted in care, intention, and a shared commitment to doing things differently.
